The Historical Pocha Dighi & Ghora Dighi

These two ponds have a historical and religious importance to the villagers. There is a story with the pond that I came to know when personally I reached there. There are some crocodiles in the pond, which never do harm to their visitors even if you touch them.

So many people used to come everyday in a way to make their wish fulfilled. As a result they used to give so many gifts. The belief of them is so high with that. I came to know that this is not just prejudice. So many wish have already been fulfilled.

There used be a fair in almost everyday. You can get different types of items from there. The area will get so much attraction because of these things.

The both ponds are very much interesting in a point of view that these ponds were dug so many years ago but still they are just like as it were many years ago.

Jaintiapur is one of the prime tourist attraction spots of Sylhet. A visit to this place is a worthwhile experience.

It is located 43 kilometers from the Sylhet town and only 5 kilometers from Jaflong, on the Sylhet- shilong road.

In ancient times it used to be the capital of the kingdom Jaintia comprising of Jaintia and Khasia hills and the plains of Jaintia.

The kings used to live here in palaces. The 18th century kingdom has disappeared long back living behind their architectural excellence to be cherished by the people of this era. Although the ruins of the kingdom are scattered over the whole area, they are enough to express the lavish life lead by the royal families of that time.

The most favorite destination among all these ruins would be the Jaintiapur Rajbari (king’s house). Apart from this there is a sun-clock in the vicinity of the Rajbari which reflects the scientific knowledge of then people.

Undoubtedly Jaintiapur was a beautiful region once. And with proper preservation of the ruins discovered, it could still execute its real royal beauty. But unfortunately, due to lack of proper preservation 0much of these like some parts of the rajbari is in a dilapidated condition but it still attracts many of the tourists every year.
